Professor Peter Gardner's book New Directions: Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking is in its second edition, 18th printing. It is used in 20 countries. Associate Professor of Liberal Arts Rebecca Perricone released the CD Burgundy Brew featuring songs written by Songwriting Department Chair Jack Perricone and various collaborators. Associate Professor of Songwriting Mark Simos wrote the title cuts for Missy Werner's Three Kinds of Lonesome and Ricky Skaggs's Music to My Ears albums. Sabato "Tino" D'Agostino won the Goldin Award for Excellence in Education. He also led the Arlington, MA, High School Honors Orchestra on a concert tour of Europe. In January, faculty members Steven Kirby (guitar), Ed Lucie (bass), and Mike Connors (drums) toured California giving concerts and workshops. Professor Ken Zambello interviewed Pete Townshend on stage at the Berklee Performance Center about his autobiography Who I Am. Professor Neil Leonard composed "Du Long" (voice, saxophone, electronics) for the National Dance and Music Troupe of China, Beijing. Assistant Professor Sergio Bellotti performed at an Italian drum festival and endorses Yamaha drums. Associate Professor David Thorne Scott and his vocal group Vocalogy released the CD Refilled featuring Assistant Professor Mark Shilansky. Jeannie Gagné, Stan Strickland, Jon Hazilla, and Danny Morris were selected for the Steelgrass Recording Residency in Kauai, Hawaii, in January. Professor Wendy Rolfe gave premieres of "Three Women" for flute and piano by Professor Beth Denisch in Quito, Ecuador, and at the National Flute Association convention. Associate Professor Andrea "Ani" Johnson wrote an article for the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association Journal and presented a lecture at the January MIDEM conference in Cannes, France. Professor Sheldon Mirowitz worked on the score to the film First Comes Love, and scored the Museum of Science, Boston film Moons. Associate Professor Prince Charles Alexander mixed two songs for Alicia Keys's educational app The Journals of Mama Mae & LeeLee. Professor Tiger Okoshi brought Bruno Råberg, Daniela Schächter, Mike Tucker, and Mark Walker to teach at the Hokkaido Groove Jazz Camp in Sapporo, Japan. Associate Professor George Howard was interviewed by several media outlets about the Pandora Internet Radio Fairness Act. Voice Professor Kathryn Wright and Composition Professor Louis Stewart gave master classes and performances at the China Conservatory of Music. Professor of Apostolos Paraskevas premiered two movies: one as a director and one as an actor at a film festival in Greece. His piece "An Orange" was recorded by the duo Lagrimosa Beltà. Assistant professor of voice Daniela Schächter appeared on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz show. Assistant Professor of Guitar Colin Sapp released the CD Songs without Words with the group Choose to Find. Associate Professor of Piano Josh Rosen and Stan Strickland released the CD Instinct. Associate Professor of Percussion Jerry Leake released the CD Prominence featuring Associate Professor Randy Roos, Associate Professor Stan Strickland, and Associate Professor Paul Stiller. The Berklee Jazz/World String Orchestra premiered East River Mountain Suite by Bruce Thomas. Associate Professor John Stein released the album Bing Bang Boom!, featuring bassist John Lockwood. Chair of the Music Business/ Management Department Don Gorder gave presentations in Barcelona, Spain, and Athens, Greece; and one in Paso Robles, CA, with Drew Chandler '11. Guitar Professor Freddie Bryant released the CD Freddie Bryant + Kaleidoscope: Live Grooves . . . Epic Tales. He also received a Berklee recording grant for a new project. Voice Professor Jan Shapiro released Piano Bar After Hours featuring Bob Winter, Tim Ray, Daniela Schächter, Russ Hoffman, and Joey Blake. Brad Hatfield's arrangement of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" and Aerosmith's "Dream On" (orchestrated by Professor Bill Elliott) was performed by Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops, and the Boston University Symphonic Chorus. Percussion Professor Ed Saindon gave a master class at the Music Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium.
