In June he gave a presention in the Cuban Pavilion of the Venice Biennale. Assistant Professor Manuel Kaufmann had six compositions featured at the premiere of Federico Muchnik's This Killing Business at the Boston International Film Festival. She will make a presentation at the fall National Association for Music Education conference. Professor Eugene Friesen wrote the book Improvisation for Classical Musicians and has led numerous related workshops. His new quartet for cellos, "The Soul of the White Ant," premiered in Los Angeles and Pasadena, CA. Faculty members Sheryl Bailey, Garrison Fewell, Dave Fiuczynski, Mick Goodrick, Jane Miller, Bruce Saunders, and Mitch Seidman are included in Scott Yanow's book The Great Jazz Guitarists: The Ultimate Guide. Professor Mitch Haupers completed his frst CD/DVD as a leader and composer, (In Came) Love, So Silent, which was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign. Associate Professor John Stein penned Berklee Jazz Standards for Solo Guitar for Berklee Press. Professor Mark Walker toured with the group Oregon in March. They played two concerts with the HR Big Band of Frankfurt, Germany. Associate Professor Kudisan Kai is touring with Chaka Khan. Kai was also on the "Black Women in Rock" panel at this year's South by Southwest Music Festival. 8 Berklee today Associate Professor Mike Block recorded with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble for an upcoming album. In May, Professor Peter Gardner trained faculty and students in intercultural communication at the University of Warsaw and University of Lodz in Poland. Professor Bruce Gertz released the new CD Open Mind on the Open Mind Jazz label. He also recently played at the Kennedy Center and recorded with the Matt Savage Trio. Associate Professor Libby Allison won the Distinguished Service Award from the Massachusetts Music Educators Association's annual conference. Aided by the Newbury Comics Faculty Fellowship, Professor Steve Wilkes documented the sounds of Cape Cod. Songwriting Professor Jimmy Kachulis was nominated for the frstever Grammy Award for music education. Assistant Professor Michael Moss composed and recorded music for the 70th anniversary edition audiobook of The Little Prince, featuring performances by Moss, Jeff Gilman '94, and violinist Michael Rosenbloom. Professor John Baboian taught the clinic "Two Guitars Are Better Than One" with University of Southern California Guitar Professor Frank Potenza '72, and performed with the World Leaders at the Jazz Educators Network conference in Atlanta, GA. Chair of Music Business/Management Don Gorder participated in panel discussions and made presentations at Harvard Business School; English High School in Bogotá, Colombia; and the Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association Faculty Summit. Assistant Professor Nando Michelin reissued his CD Reencontro, featuring Esperanza Spalding '05, Richie Barshay, and Tiago Michelin. He performed at Carnegie Hall's Neighborhood Concerts with Rogerio Boccato, and played on a new CD by Felipe Salles that features Dave Liebman. Professor Tom Stein is a member of the Kaupang Studios advisory board and is the CMO of MusiciansApp. He serves on the conference advisory board of the Audio Technologies for Music and Media conference and is the USA country manager for the International Institute of Marketing Professionals. Associate Professor Richie Hart released the new solo guitar CD In a Mellow Tone. He is also featured on Jim Stinnett's new CD Let's Groove, featuring drummer Joe Hunt.
